YOUR EXPERIENCE

Volunteers get involved with schools in the poorer districts of the city  teaching basic English to children from disadvantaged families who are very eager to learn.  No experience required just a commitment to have a go and get stuck in.

A volunteer coordinator will be  on hand for any advice or assistance regarding your placement.

For volunteers unable to travel after their volunteering, the beaches are never too far away and can be easily reached from Bangkok for your end of week day out or a weekend away. For the paradise island experience try the island of Ko Samet or for parties Pattaya, a popular tourist haunt with all the usual bars and entertainment catering for the foreign tourist. For both locations expect to pay £4 for a bamboo cabin on the beach.

Thailand  things to see and do...

Take a boat trip through Bangkok's Floating Market, or along the klongs, a network of canals leading off the river, and lined with dwellings opening directly on to the water. Life has changed little for those living along the klongs.

Take in a muay thai (Thai kick-boxing) match; this traditional sport can be seen every day of the year at the major stadiums in both Bangkok and the provinces. Thai boxing matches are preceded by elaborate ceremonies and accompanied by lively music.

Take a day excursion from Bangkok for a train trip across the notorious River Kwai Bridge at Kanchanaburi, which was built by Allied prisoners under the direction of the Japanese during WWII .

Head off after your volunteering to enjoy Thailand's thousands of kilometres of coastline, either above or below the water. Have a go at sea canoeing and kayaking through the spectacular limestone islands in Phang Nga Bay and explore the half-submerged caves and grottoes.

Language:

English is widely understood, particularly in Bangkok where it is almost the major commercial language.

“Everyone is friendly

and accommodating

and the coordinators

are fantastic.  I never

felt any uneasiness

whilst at either of the two orphanages I spent time at or whilst

visiting local attractions. I would definitely

consider returning for

a second visit."
